A periapical X-ray covers a small area, usually one to three neighbouring teeth, and shows them in full: the crown, the root and the bone around its tip. It's the most commonly used X-ray in everyday practice.
Thanks to its fine detail, it's essential for root canal treatment, suspected root infections, injuries and before an extraction. Because it covers a small area, the radiation dose is minimal.
